Mirko Celestino (born March 19, 1974 in Albenga ) is a former Italian cyclist who was successful in road cycling and mountain biking . Following his active career, he became the Italian national mountain bike trainer.

Career

In 1995 Celestino was U23 European champion in road racing . In the 1996 season, Celestino received his first regular contract with an international cycling team with Team Polti , after he had already been a stagiaire there the previous year . He celebrated his first international elite success in 1998 in Germany as stage and overall winner of the Regio Tour . Among his greatest career successes on the road to victory in the included HEW Cyclassics in 1999, the classic Tour of Lombardy and the half classic Milan-Turin in 2001 and 2003. Another important position he achieved in the 2005 season and was the ProTour -race Amstel Gold Race third behind Danilo Di Luca and Michael Boogerd .

After finishing his career as a road cyclist at the end of 2007, Celestino switched to mountain biking. There he was able to achieve quick successes, especially in the marathon : in 2010 he won the silver medal at the world championships and in 2011 the bronze medal.

In 2017 Celestino took over the role of the Italian national mountain bike trainer.
