The city has retained its medieval core. In its center, near Piazza San Michele, the most important buildings of the city stand together in a very small space.
- The cathedral named after the Archangel Michael , which was founded in the fifth century, has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. The campanile was built towards the end of the 11th century, but received its octagonal tip in 1391. The two side aisles were added in the first half of the 14th century, the baroque portal in 1669.
- Next to the cathedral is the early Christian baptistery . The externally decagonal structure has an octagonal drum . The interior is also an octagon, which is surrounded by eight arcades . Above it, sixteen smaller arches contain eight windows. A wooden ceiling forms the end. In the middle, the remains of the octagonal baptismal font can still be seen, in a niche an early Christian mosaic with Christ's monogram , doves and lambs.
- Santa Maria in Fontibus is an early Romanesque church with a Gothic portal , rebuilt several times . Inside is a painting by Domenico Fiasella ( Kosmas and Damian ).
