Loano (in Ligurian : Löa ) is a town with 11,358 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian region of Liguria . Politically, it is in the province of Savona .

geography

Loano is located on the Riviera di Ponente , between the municipalities of Pietra Ligure and Borghetto Santo Spirito . In the urban area is the mouth of the Nimbalto River . The municipality is about 34 kilometers away from the provincial capital Savona . Due to its protected location, in the lee of a mountain belt, the highest elevation of which is Monte Carmo di Loano at 1389 meters above sea level, Loano enjoys a particularly mild climate in contrast to the neighboring communities. This peculiarity has also given the city the nickname Isola del Ponente (in German: Insel des Ponente ). With its territory, Loano belongs to the Comunità Montana Pollupice .

The Verzi housing estate belongs to Loano and lies inland in the Valle del Nimbalto .
