Gianluca Tagliazucchi

Gianluca Tagliazucchi (born February 5, 1968 in Loano ) is an Italian jazz musician ( piano , arrangement , composition ).

Live and act

Tagliazucchi began taking classical piano lessons at the age of six. His jazz education is essentially self-taught . He studied arrangement for jazz orchestra with Cesare Marchini. He has been active in the jazz scene since 1985, giving concerts, teaching and arranging for big bands and smaller formations.

In 1991 he attended seminars for jazz music in Siena under the direction of Enrico Pieranunzi and Stefano Battaglia ; in the same year he was able to participate in the seminar Spazio Musica with a scholarship from the American pianist Mal Waldron . In 1994 he received a scholarship from George Cables and Jack McDuff for the We Love Jazz seminar . In 1995 he took part in a piano masterclass with James Williams . In 1998, Barry Harris taught him ensemble playing in New York .

From 1996 to 2001 Tagliazucchi worked as a pianist and arranger with the Vivavoce and Novo Grupo Vocal choirs in Florence under the direction of Stefania Scarinzi, for whom he wrote numerous arrangements. Since 1997 he has worked as a pianist and arranger for the Bansigu Big Band - Genoa Jazz Orchestra , of which he was musical director between 2003 and 2005. He also worked as an arranger for the Conte Big Band . Between 2001 and 2004 he was also a member of the Genova Jazz Band . He is part of the Hard Bop New Project by Tullio De Piscopo .

Tagliazucchi also worked as a pianist with the Verona Improvisers Orchestra in their project Italy Songs for Modern Bigband , for which he also wrote original arrangements. He has participated in various festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival . He also worked with musicians like Harold Land , Tom Harrell , Charlie Mariano , Jimmy Owens , Bill Watrous , Sheila Jordan , Cameron Brown , Eliot Zigmund , Albert Heath , Paul Jeffrey , Valery Ponomarev , Dusko Goykovich , Sangoma Everett , Gianni Basso , Franco Cerri or Gianluigi Trovesi . He wrote the textbook Armonica Jazz practica .

Tagliazucchi won the Sassari (1998) and Barga Jazz (2003) arranging and composition competitions.
