Eliot Zigmund

Eliot Zigmund (born April 14, 1945 in New York City ) is an American jazz drummer .

Zigmund began working as a professional drummer at the age of sixteen and studied music at Mannes College of Music and the City College of New York . From 1975 to 1979 he was the drummer in Bill Evans' band . After that he was a member of Michel Petrucciani's trio for five years alongside Palle Danielsson .

He also worked as a sideman with musicians such as Jim Hall , Stan Getz , Joanne Brackeen , Don Friedman , Dick Oatts , Ron McClure , Art Lande , Richie Beirach , Lee Konitz , Fred Hersch , Red Mitchell , Eddie Gomez , Christian von der Goltz , Eddie Henderson , Vic Juris , Mike Richmond , Benny Golson , Enrico Pieranunzi , Marvin Stamm , Vince Guaraldi, and others.

In 2005 Zigmund appeared with the trio of pianist Ted Rosenthal at the Bill Evans Festival at South East Louisiana University and went on a tour of Japan with singer Helen Merrill . In a trio with the pianist Paolo Birro and the bassist Lorenzo Conte as well as the Sicilian harmonica player Giuseppe Millici , he played music by Burt Bacharach at the PercFest in Laigueglia 2006 . At the end of the year he toured Italy with his trio and the quartet of pianist Dado Moroni and performed with cornetist Warren Vache and saxophonist Virginia Mayhew . He currently (2019) leads a quintet that includes Matt Garrison , Allen Farnham , Tony Miceli and David Kingsnorth .
