Tony Miceli

Tony Miceli (born July 1, 1960 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American jazz musician ( vibraphone , composition ).

Live and act

Miceli, who grew up in Willingboro , New Jersey , first learned classical guitar , then later drums , piano and trumpet . He played as a drummer in a high school band. From 1987 to 1982 he attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia , where he studied percussion and discovered his love for the vibraphone.

After his studies Miceli toured with the group Mallet Madness , in which he worked with Christoph Eidens , Bernd Zinsius and Ron van Strattun. Since then he has performed regularly in the USA and Europe; he has worked with musicians such as David Friedman , Joe Magnarelli , Dave Liebman , Elio Villafranco, Steve Slagle , Dave Stryker , Peter Bernstein , Gerald Veasley , Jimmy Bruno and Joanna Pascale .

He has also recorded several albums with his own groups. Tom Lord records a total of 16 recordings between 1981 and 2014. Miceli currently works mainly with harmonica player Paul Jost in the Jost Project , as well as with the Modern Irish Quartet and Thelonious 4 (Netherlands) and gives concerts in these and other formations worldwide.

Miceli held workshops at the Curtis Institute for Music, the Royal Academy of Music in Dublin, Millers University and the University of Delaware, among others . He is a professor at the University of the Arts and also teaches at Temple University in Philadelphia. Together with Matthias Goebel , he directed the Spring Vibes festival in Wuppertal in 2017 . He is also the founder and moderator of the vibraphone community website vibesworkshop.com.
