Gerald Veasley (born July 28, 1955 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American fusion jazz bassist .

Life

Veasley, who grew up in Philadelphia and turned to bass guitar when he was twelve , played in R&B bands as a teenager . After studying at the University of Pennsylvania , he worked with Odean Pope , Pat Martino and Jaco Pastorius . Together with Cornell Rochester , he recorded the album One Minute of Love for Gramavision Records in 1985 , for which it came to collaboration with Willie Williams , James Blood Ulmer and with John Zorn . In 1986 he became a member of Grover Washington Jr.'s band ; In 1988 he moved to the Syndicate of Joe Zawinul , where he remained until 1995th He has recorded with McCoy Tyner , the Dixie Hummingbirds and John Blake and has worked extensively as a studio musician.

Since 1992 he has released records under his own name. His release Your Move reached number 12 on the Billboard charts for contemporary jazz albums.

Veasley also ran a jazz club in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania and served as a presenter on the smooth jazz station WJJZ in Philadelphia. The readers of Jazziz Magazine named him “the best electric bassist”.
