Jimmy Bruno

Jimmy Bruno (born July 22, 1953 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz guitarist, teacher and author.

Live and act

Jimmy Bruno has been active on the Philadelphia jazz scene since the early 1970s; at the age of 19 he went on tour with Buddy Rich's band. He later led Frank Sinatra's backing band and worked in Los Angeles for several years before returning to Philadelphia. Since the early 1990s he has been working in his hometown as a music teacher and author of several textbooks; he has since recorded a number of albums for the Concord Jazz label, featuring musicians such as Joey DeFrancesco , Howard Alden , Frank Vignola , Joe Beck and Jack Wilkins . In 1997 he appeared with his band consisting of bassist Craig Thomas and drummer Vince Ector in Blue Note (New York) ; Alto saxophonist Bobby Watson was there , who contributed Charlie Parker numbers like "Segment", "Au Privave" and "Anthropology". In 1999 he played again with his trio in the Blue Note, this time with Scott Hamilton as a guest. Most recently, Bruno recorded the album Mapleshade Avenue with a trio of bassist Jeff Pedras and vibraphonist Tony Miceli .

His main influences include Bruno the guitarists Johnny Smith , Hank Garland , Joe Pass , Tal Farlow , Wes Montgomery , Howard Roberts , Jim Hall and Pat Martino .
