Paolo Birro

Paolo Birro (* 1962 in Noventa Vicentina ) is an Italian jazz musician (piano, composition).

Birro initially trained as a classical pianist at the Vicenza Conservatory, but then turned to jazz, which had fascinated him from childhood. In 1992 he won first prize at the Barga International Competition in a trio with Sandro Gibellini and Mauro Negri . With his first album Fair Play he attracted the attention of the critics of the specialist magazine Musica Jazz , who praised him as the best young talent in Italian jazz.

In the following years he performed with musicians such as Lee Konitz , Buddy DeFranco , Art Farmer , Johnny Griffin , Scott Hamilton , Gianni Basso , Ruud Brink , Charles Davis , Enrico Rava , Richard Galliano , Paolo Fresu , Tiziana Ghiglioni and Aldo Romano . In addition to albums with his own groups and as a soloist, he has accompanied more than 50 albums by musicians such as Pietro Tonolo , Emanuele Cisi , Claudio Fasoli , Eliot Zigmund and J. Kyle Gregory . He is also part of the Lydian Sound Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Brazzale .

As a music teacher he has been teaching at the Vicenzy Conservatory since 2003, but also at the Civici Corsi di Jazz in Milan, the International Jazz Master Classes in Siena, the Jazz Department of the Conservatory of Bologna and the Jazzinty Workshop in Novo mesto (Slovenia).
