Stella (in Ligurian : Steja ) is an Italian commune with 2960 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Liguria region . Politically it belongs to the province of Savona . The core town of Stella San Giovanni is also the birthplace of the seventh President of the Italian Republic, Sandro Pertini .

geography

Stella is located in the Ligurian Apennines , on the upper reaches of the Sansobbia . The municipality belongs to the Comunità Montana del Giovo and forms part of the Beigua Natural Park with its territory . There are a total of six districts: the main town of San Giovanni and the districts of Gameragna, Santa Giustina, San Martino and San Bernardo (these together are also called "Cinque Stelle", "the five stars"; a five-pointed star also adorns the municipal coat of arms) and Teglia . The district of San Bernardo is often equated with its central location (località) Corona. Stella is about 13 kilometers away from the provincial capital Savona .

According to the Italian classification for seismic activity , the municipality was assigned to zone 4. This means that Stella is in a seismically inert zone.
