Spotorno (in Ligurian : Spotòrno ) is an Italian municipality with 3626 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Liguria region . Politically it belongs to the province of Savona .

geography

Spotorno is located on the Riviera di Ponente , between Punta del Maiolo and Punta del Vescovado . With its territory it belongs to the Comunità Montana Pollupice and is about 13 kilometers away from the provincial capital Savona . The common land is criss- crossed by a dense network of footpaths maintained by the local Arciambiente group .

In 2007, Spotorno received the Blue Flag for its particularly well-kept beaches.

According to the Italian classification for seismic activity , the municipality was assigned to zone 4. This means that Spotorno is in a seismically inert zone.

The municipality is classified under climate category D , since the degree day number has a value of 1440. This means that the heating period regulated by law in Italy is between November 1st and April 15th for 12 hours per day.

Community partnerships

Spotorno has partnerships with the Baden-Württemberg city of Bad Dürrheim (since 1999) and with the Danish municipality of Høje-Taastrup .

economy

Spotorno is shaped by tourism. Every year 600,000 overnight stays are registered (2013), around 60,000 guests can be welcomed, 20,000 of them in the holiday month of August alone. The private bathing beaches (balnearios) usually open at the end of April and close in September, in 2014 they were open until October due to the warm weather.
