Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena (in Ligurian : Castrevëgio ) is an Italian municipality with 145 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Savona in Liguria .

geography

The community, which emerged from a medieval castle complex , is located in the Val Neva on the southern slopes of the Rocca Barbena (1142 meters above sea level). The associated settlement Vecersio , however, is located in a side valley .

Castelvecchio belongs to the Comunità Montana Ingauna and is about 60 kilometers away from the provincial capital Savona .

Castello dei Clavesana

The Castello dei Clavesana

The Castello dei Clavesana was built by the Clavesana family in the Middle Ages . In 1672 it was badly damaged during the siege by Genoese soldiers. From the restored castle complex you have a particularly good view of the village as well as the entire valley.

In 2007 the municipality was awarded the Bandiera Arancione and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).
