Albisola Superiore beach

Albisola Superiore (in Ligurian : D'âto d'Arvissêua ) is a town with 9742 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian region of Liguria . Politically, it is in the province of Savona . Together with Albissola Marina , the city is known for its ceramic products .

The difference between the name and the neighboring Albissola Marina - which is written with two "s" - goes back to a spelling mistake by the Heraldry of the Kingdom of Italy ( Consulta Araldica del Regno d'Italia ) for the granting of the new coat of arms for Albissola in 1915.

The core area of ​​Albisola Superiore is divided into two parts. Above the railway line, one kilometer from the Ligurian Sea , is the main town of Albisola Superiore. Below, however, is the original town center, which is also called Il Capo or Albisola Capo . There is also the Ellera settlement . The mean distance to the provincial capital Savona is five kilometers.

The location of a quarter of Albisola Capo , which is a few decimeters below sea ​​level, is worth mentioning . A wide promenade leads from Albisola Capo along a sandy beach to Albissola Marina.

Albisola Superiore has been awarded the Blue Flag annually since 2004 , which distinguishes the beach's particularly high quality. The city is also the owner of the Bandiera Verde and belongs to the Comunità Montana del Giovo and the Associazione Italiana Città della Ceramica (in German: Italian Association of Ceramic Cities ).
