Luka Pibernik (born October 23, 1993 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian cyclist .

Career

Pibernik was Slovenian road racing champion in 2013 and 2015 and won his first race on the international calendar in 2013 with the second stage of the Czech Cycling Tour .

In 2015 he received his first contract with a UCI WorldTeam , the Italian team Lampre-Merida . For this team he contested his first Grand Tour with the Tour de France 2016 , which he finished in 102nd place. On the sixth stage of the Eneco Tour 2016 , he achieved his first success in a UCI WorldTour race as the sprint winner of a five-man breakaway group .

At the Giro d'Italia 2017 , Pibernik already believed himself to be the winner in the sprint final of the fifth stage and at the finish line cheered his supposed victory after a late attack, but overlooked that there was still another final lap to be driven.
