Andrew Talansky (born November 23, 1988 ) is a former cyclist and later triathlete from the USA .

Career

Andrew Talansky began his career in 2008 with the US Continental Team Toshiba / Santo-Herbalife . The next year he moved to Amore & Vita-McDonald’s for one season . In 2010 Talansky won one stage each in the Joe Martin Stage Race , in the Volta Ciclista Provincia Tarragona and in the Tour des Pays de Savoie . He was also the US champion in the individual time trial of the U23 class.

In 2011 Talansky switched to the UCI ProTeam Garmin-Sharp , for which he finished seventh overall at the 2012 Vuelta a España . At Paris – Nice 2013 he won a stage and thus his first WorldTour race . The following summer he finished tenth in the 2013 Tour de France .

An attack on the last stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2014 won him the overall standings, defeating Tour de France favorites Chris Froome and Alberto Contador . In the subsequent Tour de France 2014 , however, he fell twice and with back pain on the 11th stage could no longer keep the pace of the peloton . He did not start the next stage.

Talansky became the US elite time trial champion in 2015. He won a stage each on the Tour of Utah and the Tour of California in 2017 . At the end of the 2017 season, he announced his departure from road cycling to devote himself to triathlon , but was unable to qualify for the Ironman World Championship .
