David "Dave" Zabriskie (born January 12, 1979 in Salt Lake City , Utah ) is a former American cyclist . He achieved his greatest successes in time trials .
Career
From 2001 to 2004 he drove for the US Postal Team , from 2005 to 2007 he was part of the Danish CSC team. In 2008 he switched to the American team Slipstream-Chipotle , which was sponsored by Garmin this season and took the name of the new main sponsor.
His greatest successes up to 2006 included a stage win at the Vuelta a España in 2004 , winning the 8th stage ( individual time trial ) at the Giro d'Italia 2005 , the opening time trial of the Tour de France 2005 and the silver medal in the individual time trial at the UCI road World Championships 2006 . Zabriskie was the US time trial champion in 2000 (U23), 2004 and 2006.
In the 2007-2009 years he was able to defend the title of national time trial champion. In 2009 he also won a tour of the Tour of Missouri for the first time in his career . He laid the foundation for the overall victory on the third stage with a superior victory in the time trial. After being national time trial champion four times in a row, Zabriskie decided not to defend his title in 2010. In 2011 he won both the Tour de Romandie time trial and the Tour of California time trial . He also won the national time trial championship for the sixth time.
On October 10, 2012, Zabriskie was banned from the USADA for doping . On October 6, 2013, he contested his last international race with the Tour of Lombardy and then retired from competitive cycling.
