Jelle Vanendert (born February 19, 1985 in Neerpelt ) is a Belgian racing cyclist .
Athletic career
Jelle Vanendert began his career in 2004 with the Belgian cycling team Jartazi Granville . From 2005 to 2007 he drove for the Continental Team Bodysol-Win for Life-Jong Vlaanderen . He finished fourth in the Flèche Ardennaise in 2005. In 2006 he won the Belgian one-day race GP Waregem . At the road cycling world championships in Salzburg Vanendert finished fifth in the road race of the U23 drivers. In 2008 Vanendert was part of the French team Française des Jeux , for which he completed his first big tour with the Vuelta a España . He has been driving for Silence Lotto and Omega Pharma-Lotto since 2009 and took part in the Giro d'Italia 2009 , the Vuelta a España 2010 and the Tour de France 2011 , among others .
At the Tour de France 2011 Vanendert attacked on the 12th stage to Luz Ardiden together with Samuel Sánchez , but had to let the Spaniard go shortly before the finish and finished second. On the 14th stage to Plateau de Beille , he was able to break away from the group of favorites while they watched each other, and won the stage before Sánchez. As a result, he wore the spotted jersey for the leader in the mountain classification for four days . He finished the tour in 20th place in the overall ranking and third in the mountain ranking. This was his best placement out of ten participations in the major country tours (as of June 2018).
His younger brother Dennis Vanendert is also a cyclist.
