A national team from the host country was also eligible to participate in certain competitions such as the Tour Down Under in Australia or the Tour of Poland .
Teams
UCI ProTeams
In a notification dated October 5, 2011, the UCI announced which teams already licensed for 2012 had applied for registration for this 2012 season and which teams were still applying for such a license and registration. The application process was completed on November 1st. The final decision on license distribution was made on December 10th. The Movistar team , which still has a valid license until 2013, and the Garmin-Cervélo team were not named in the notification , as both had submitted their documents after the deadline on October 1st. On October 25, the UCI published a ranking of license applicants based on the sporting criteria. These are calculated according to the results of the drivers of each team in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Accordingly, 15 teams meet the sporting requirements, while five teams fight for three places that are still free. The Argos-Shimano team did not meet the sporting criteria and therefore had no chance of a ProTeam license.
On November 1st, the UCI announced which eight teams with a valid license meet the sporting, financial, ethical and administrative requirements and have therefore already been selected as ProTeam for 2012. The remaining applicants for a ProTeam license were heard before the license commission of the World Cycling Association until November 20th.
The Argos-Shimano team was the 21st team to miss the athletic qualification for a license. For four other teams, which ranked 16th to 20th on this ranking list, the athletic qualification criterion was checked more closely by the licensing commission. Of these, three more received the WorldTour team license, while the applications from Geox-TMC and Team Europcar were rejected. The following teams were finally registered as UCI ProTeams for 2012:

On October 11, 2011, the Union Cycliste Internationale published the racing calendar for 2012. With the E3 Flanders Prize , a new competition was added to the program. On June 26, 2012, the licensing commission announced that the Tour of Hangzhou was another Chinese race that was to be added to the calendar and should mark the end of the 2012 season, but was canceled by the UCI because the standards of a WorldTour race in 2012 had not yet been met could become. The following races are therefore part of the UCI WorldTour 2012:
The most important changes in dates compared to 2011 concern the Clásica San Sebastián and the Tour of Poland as well as the Tour of Lombardy . Due to the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Clásica will not be held at the end of July, but in mid-August, while the Poland Tour moves from August to July. The Lombardy Tour will no longer take place in mid-October as the final race of the World Tour, but rather at the end of September.
