Wilier is an Italian bicycle manufacturer based in Rossano Veneto , Italy. The company name was created as an abbreviation for the expression " W l ' I talia li berata er edenta" (transl. "Long live the liberated and redeemed Italy"), whereby the W is an abbreviation for "Viva!". Triestina comes from the name of the city of Trieste . When Wilier was founded, Trieste was not part of Italy and the name Wilier Triestina reflects a patriotic desire for it to be resumed.

Wilier was founded in 1906 by Pietro Dal Molin from Bassano del Grappa to build racing bikes. In 1945 the company was officially renamed Wilier Triestina and the following year it sent its own team to the Giro d'Italia , the first event after the Second World War , for the first time . With several stage wins, Wilier not only surprised the competition, but also became one of the most sought-after bicycle manufacturers in Italy.

In 1952 Wilier Triestina had to file for bankruptcy due to the poor economic situation. In 1969 the remains of the company were bought up by the Gastaldello brothers and the production of racing bikes began again.

From 2016 to 2018, Wilier Triestina-Southeast , and later mainly Wilier Triestina-Selle Italia, had its own UCI Professional Continental Team . Wilier is the outfitter of the UCI Professional Continental Team Total Direct Energy , which also competes in the Tour de France. The UCI Continental Team Doha also rides on Wilier bikes.
