Janez Brajkovič (born December 18, 1983 in Metlika , Bela Krajina region ; first name often given as Jani ) is a Slovenian cyclist .
Career
Janez Brajkovič was 2004 Slovenian champion of the U23 class on the road and in the individual time trial , later he also won the U23 time trial of the World Cup in Verona .
Brajkovič contested his races for the Continental Team KRKA-Adria Mobil until July 2005 before joining the US UCI ProTeam Discovery Channel at the end of the month . In the following year he was able to draw attention to himself with fifth place overall in the Tour de Suisse and he also took part in his first three-week tour of the country with the Vuelta a España , where he wore the gold jersey of the overall leader for two days. In 2007 Brajkovič also won the overall ranking of the Tour de Georgia after winning the junior ranking the previous year.
For the 2008 season Brajkovič moved to Team Astana and was able to achieve third place overall in the last edition of the Germany Tour . In 2009 he started at the Giro d'Italia for the first time and finished it in 18th place. In the 2010 and 2011 seasons Brajkovič was in the service of Lance Armstrong's newly founded team RadioShack . In June 2010 he achieved his greatest success so far when he won the overall classification of the Critérium du Dauphiné in addition to the individual time trial and relegated Alberto Contador , last year's winner of the Tour de France, to second place. In addition, Brajkovič was in the same year for the first time in the Tour de France at the start and finished 43rd.
In 2012 he returned to the Astana Pro Team and finished ninth in the Tour de France . He started at the Olympic Games in London and finished 21st in the road race and 10th in the individual time trial. As a result, he could no longer build on his previous successes. In the 2015 season he moved to the US Professional Continental Team UnitedHealthcare Team . He stated that he would suit the American races and the American mentality better. In 2017 he moved to the newly founded Bahrain-Merida team .
