The 96th classic bike tour of Flanders took place on April 1st, 2012. The one-day race was part of the UCI WorldTour 2012 and within this the eighth race. The distance of the race was 254.4 kilometers.

route

Compared to the previous year , the route for the 2012 edition had been changed significantly. The goal of the race was no longer in Meerbeke near Brussels , but in Oudenaarde . The legendary Geraardsbergen wall was also not part of the program . Instead, the participants had to pass the Oude Kwaremont and the Paterberg three times.

Race course

The race was won by Belgian Tom Boonen , who had previously also won the UCI WorldTour races E3 Harelbeke and Gent-Wevelgem and at that time was leading the individual classification of the UCI WorldTour . Boonen had previously pulled away on the last climb together with Filippo Pozzato and Alessandro Ballan and beat them in the sprint.
