Meerbeke is a sub-municipality of the Belgian town of Ninove in the Denderstreek in the province of East Flanders . The place has an area of ​​10.47 km².

history

Meerbeke was first mentioned in a document in 870 in the Treaty of Meersen . At that time it belonged to the Gau Brabant and was owned by the monastery in Nivelles . From 1085/1086 Meerbeke was part of the Landgraviate of Brabant, which became part of the Duchy of Brabant in 1183/1184 .

Under French rule, the place was added to the Scheldt department, which then became part of the province of East Flanders in 1815 after the Congress of Vienna .
