Felt Racing is a bicycle manufacturer based in Irvine , CA , USA and Saint-Jean-de-Moirans , France . The company belongs to the French group of companies Rossignol .

history

Felt was founded in 1994 by the namesake of the company, Jim Felt. Felt worked as a motocross mechanic. He designed and built a triathlon bike for motocross rider Johnny O'Mara , who ran triathlons for training purposes.

Since Jim Felt competed in triathlons himself, he had a clear idea of how he could improve the designs that had been common up until then. He tried to aerodynamically optimize the position of the driver. Johnny O – Mara began to win with the bike built by Felt and so Jim Felt received orders from other triathletes of that time.

Jim Felt

Ten years after building his first triathlon bike, Jim Felt wanted to expand and produce his bikes in larger numbers. Bill Duehring, a veteran in the bicycle industry, joined the company. He brought with him experience in product development and marketing and had relationships with dealers worldwide. Michael Müllmann also joined Felt as the owner of a sales company in Europe. In addition to triathlon bikes, Felt also builds mountain bikes and racing bikes .

In spring 2017, Felt Bicycles was taken over by the French company group Rossignol . In September 2018, Bill Duehring, co-founder and director of Felt, left the company.

development

Felt invented innovative manufacturing processes like "InsideOut Internally Optimized Molding" and the "Dynamic Monocoque" construction. This allows depressions to be made in carbon frames, which are used, for example, to guide cables. Felt designed products such as the FAST damping system and the "Bayonet 3" steering system. The Bayonet 3 replaces conventional tax rates .

Products

The flagship among the Felt racing bikes is the F1 , with which the Professional Continental Team Argos-Shimano also took part in the Tour de France. The DA time trial bike, which complies with the UCI material rules , is used in international cycling time trials and the triathlon scene. The Edict full-suspension bike is used in races of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup . The track bikes from Felt, the first time in Beijing in 2008 in use were revised in 2012 and the Olympic Games in London reinstated. Felt introduced the cyclocross series FX, frames on a carbon platform that are much lighter than their predecessors.
