Johann Tschopp (born July 1, 1982 in Sierre ) is a former Swiss cyclist .

Career

Tschopp became a professional with the Swiss Phonak Cycling Team in 2004 after having ridden there the previous year as a stagiaire . He made his first appearance when he finished sixth in the Swiss time trial championships in June. At the Tour of Austria in 2005 , he was only just second behind Juan Miguel Mercado . He also took fourth place in the mountain classification there.

Tschopp took part in the Cyclocross World Championships in Monopoli in 2003 . His second professional success so far was a stage win at the Giro d'Italia . On this stage he also won the Cima Coppi , the mountain classification at the highest point of the Giro in honor of the cycling legend Fausto Coppi ahead of Gilberto Simoni . At the end of the 2014 season, he ended his road cycling career to focus on mountain biking.

In 2015 Tschopp became Swiss champion in the mountain bike marathon . After injuring his back that same year, he announced his final retirement from competitive cycling in August 2016.
