The 57th Tour of Austria began on July 4th, 2005 and ended on July 10th with the final stage in Vienna . For the first time a Spaniard , namely Juan Miguel Mercado , won the tour and won with 0:16 minutes ahead of the Swiss Johann Tschopp and another 0:14 minutes on the Austrian Gerhard Trampusch .

overview

The 57th tour was marked by cuts and curiosities. On the first stage, the peloton was held up by a rail barrier that a breakaway group could pass; in the course of the second stage, the Fuschertörl should have been crossed, but due to bad weather a mountain arrival was set up there. In the third stage, shortly before the finish line, four outliers, following a police motorcycle, chose the wrong turn and ended up in the middle of Kitzbühel's rush hour traffic. Then they jumped over the barrier to the home straight and drove angrily to the finish, knowing full well that this would result in a withdrawal. Maarten den Bakker from the Netherlands won this stage .

The 5th stage had to be shortened from 201 kilometers to only 50 due to snowfall on the mountains and a mudslide . This benefited two outliers who were able to save their lead to the finish.
