Matti Breschel (born August 31, 1984 in Ballerup ) is a former Danish cyclist .

Cycling career

After Breschel finished third at the Danish elite road championships in 2004 and finished sixth in the U23 road race at the 2004 World Championships in Verona, he received his first contract with an international cycling team at the UCI ProTeam CSC .

In the course of his career, Breschel won several international races, primarily in the sprint, including the mass sprint of the final stage of the Vuelta a España 2008 . At the 2008 World Championships in Varese , Italy , he was third behind the solo winners Alessandro Ballan and Damiano Cunego , who won the sprint of the pursuers before him. In 2009 he became the Danish road racing champion . At the beginning of the 2010 season he won the semi-classic Dwars door Vlaanderen . At the 2010 World Championships , he won the silver medal behind Thor Hushovd , who won the sprint of the front field before Breschel. At the Tour of Luxembourg in 2014, he achieved the only overall victory in an international stage race .

At the end of the 2019 season, Breschel ended his career as a racing cyclist.

In December 2010 Matti Breschel was voted “Cyclist of the Year” in Denmark.
