Michael Sandstød

Michael Sandstød (born June 23, 1968 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish cyclist .

Michael Sandstød was one of the strongest and most versatile Danish racing drivers in the 1990s and early 2000s, successful on track and road. He was Danish champion alone 24 times in various disciplines, on the track in the single pursuit , the team pursuit , in the points race as well as in the two-person team race , in road races and in the individual time trial on the road.

Internationally, his greatest successes on the track were a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona in the team pursuit (with Ken Frost , Jimmi Madsen , Jan Bo Petersen and Klaus Kynde Nielsen ) as well as the title of Vice World Champion at the 1996 World Track Championships in Manchester . He also started in 28 six-day races and was third in 1996 and second in Grenoble in 1999 (both times with Jakob Piil ) and third in Herning in 1996 (with Danny Clark ).

In 1999 Michael Sandstød won the Four Days of Dunkirk and in 2000 and 2002 the Tour de Picardie . He also took part in the Tour de France twice, in 2000 and 2002 . When he participated for the first time in 2000, he was able to take second place behind Jaan Kirsipuu on the 5th stage .
