Alex Dowsett (born October 3, 1988 in Essex ) is a British track and road cyclist . He is a time trial specialist and meanwhile holder of the world hour record .
Career
After Dowsett in the junior classes a. a. Four-time British and once European champion in the individual time trial as well as bronze medalist in the team pursuit at the 2013 World Junior Track Championships , he joined the UCI ProTeam Sky in 2011 . For this team he won his first international elite road race in 2011 with a stage of the Tour du Poitou-Charentes . That year he also won the British Time Trial Championship. He was able to repeat this success in the two following years.
After two years with Team Sky, he switched to the Spanish Movistar team and achieved his greatest success on the road to date in the individual time trial on the eighth stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013 , a 54.8-kilometer time trial. In 2014 he won the gold medal in the individual time trial at the Commonwealth Games . On May 2, 2015, he improved the hour record in the Manchester Velodrome to 52.937 kilometers and remained the record holder until he was replaced by Bradley Wiggins on June 7, 2015 .
A few weeks after his record run, the 26-year-old won his first international stage race with the Bayern Rundfahrt 2015 . In the same year he and his team from Movistar won the bronze medal in the team time trial at the road world championships .
In 2016, Dowsett became the British individual time trial champion for the fifth time in his career. In 2018, after five years at Movistar, he moved to Team Katusha Alpecin and, after its dissolution, to the taking over Team Israel Start-Up Nation .
