The Icelandic Football Championship in 1968 was the 57th season of the highest Icelandic football league . The season began on May 25, 1968 and ended on August 26, 1968.
Six teams took part in the competition, in which they each compete twice in a simple round trip. KR Reykjavík won the 20th title in the club's history. After this fifth triumph in just ten years, it would be 31 years before the next championship won in 1999 .
Due to the decision to carry out the league in the 1969 season with seven, and from 1970 with eight teams, the last-placed Keflavík ÍF did not descend directly into the 2nd deild karla , but played a relegation tournament with the two best teams in the second division both best teams were eligible to compete in the 1st league.
