The Icelandic football championship in 1942 was the 31st season of the highest Icelandic football league .

Five teams took part in the competition, in which each team met each other once. Then the two teams with the same points placed first played in a playoff for the championship title. Due to a tie in the first game, this final had to be repeated. Finally, Valur Reykjavík won the eighth title in the club's history.
