The Icelandic football championship in 1939 was the 28th season of the highest Icelandic football league .

Four teams took part in the competition, in which each team met each other once. Fram Reykjavík won the club's eleventh title, and the first since 1925 .

The final table of the season shows some firsts in the history of the Icelandic football league:

  • For the first time, a team that lost at least one game became champions.
  • For the first time, the defending champion finished the season last in the table.
  • For the first time, the master had a negative goal balance.
