The 2001 Icelandic Football Championship was the 90th season of Iceland's highest football league , and was also known as Símadeild (after sponsor Síminn ). The league began on May 18, 2001 and ended with the last games on September 18, 2001.
Ten teams took part in the competition, which was held in a simple round trip. ÍA Akranes was able to win the title again after a five-year break, with the ÍB Vestmannaeyja only losing due to a worse goal difference.
