Categoria Superiore 1999/2000

The Category Superiore 2000/01 (meaning: the highest league ) was the 62nd edition of the Albanian football championship and was organized by the national football association Federata Shqiptare e Futbollit . As in the previous year, the season was held with 14 teams. The season began on September 16, 2000 and ended on May 19, 2001.

Season course

Defending champion SK Tirana and local rivals Dinamo started very successfully with four and five wins respectively. In contrast, the start of the season Vllaznia Shkodra was only mediocre. After eight match days, the club was already seven points behind the leaders SK Tirana. After the ninth matchday, however, Vllaznia won eight of nine games and after 21 games of the season had two points ahead of the two capital city clubs, which were saved to the finish.

Runner-up Tomori Berat disappointed this year and was only able to escape relegation on the penultimate matchday.

Newcomers Besa Kavaja and Skënderbeu Korça had to go into the second division .
