Unnao is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
Unnao lies in the north Indian plain. The city is located 20 km northeast of Kanpur and 55 km southwest of Lucknow . The city forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The national highway NH 25 (Kanpur – Lucknow) runs through the city.
As a city, Unnao has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad . The city is divided into 29 wards . At the 2011 census, Unnao had 177,658 inhabitants.
