Ward (India)

A Ward is in India an administrative unit of the administrative division of India .

A ward is the smallest level in the administrative division of India. Each ward is represented by a parishioner or commissioner, also called a panch or panchayat member , who is directly elected by the residents. The panchayat is run by the mayor of the village known as Sarpanch . The term of office of these elected representatives is five years. The Panchayat Secretary is an unelected representative appointed by the state government to oversee the Panchayat's activities.

In Mumbai, for example, wards are administrative units of the city.
