The championship was played in a regular season with a round trip. Each team competed twice against each other team. The two last-placed teams had to relegate to the then still second-rate category e dytë . The champion did not move into the European Cup, as Albania withdrew from this competition for several years.

After two third places in a row, Vllaznia Shkodra was at the top in 1972. Three points ahead of 17 Nëntori Tirana , the club won the third championship in the club's history and the first since 1946 with just one defeat - but also ten draws .
