Compared to the previous season in 1956 , the league comprised only eight teams instead of nine. 1956 were Puna Shkodra and Puna Elbasan relegated for 1957 increased from the then second-rate Kategoria e Dyte Spartaku Tirana after one year of abstinence in the Kategoria e Pare on. The defending champion was KS Dinamo Tirana .
The championship was played in a regular season with a round trip. Each team competed twice against each other team. The table seventh had to complete relegation games against the second in the category e dytë , the bottom of the table rose directly to the second division.
A total of 171 goals were scored, which corresponds to an average of 3.0 goals per game. The top scorer with 11 goals was Refik Resmja from Partizani Tirana for the seventh time .
At the end of the regular season, Partizani Tirana and defending champion Dinamo Tirana were tied at the top of the table. Since the direct comparison ended in a draw, both had to play a decider for the title. The two capital city clubs distanced Puna Korça by six and record champions Puna Tirana by seven points. Puna Vlora in fifth and Puna Durrës in the next place were able to avoid the relegation place against Puna Kavaja . Direct relegated to the category e dytë was promoted Spartaku Tirana , who was winless and beaten at the bottom of the table.
In the decider for the title, Partizani Tirana prevailed 3-1 against record champions and defending champions Dinamo Tirana and thus won the fifth championship in the club's history.
On June 21st, the first relegation match between the seventh of the categories e Parë, Puna Kavaja , and the second of the categoria e dytë, Puna Berat , took place in Tirana . Berat, relegated from the first division last year, won the game 2-0. But Kavaja got the upper hand with 3-1 in the second match two days later. Since both teams had won once, a third game was played to decide. Kavaja won 4: 1 and secured the league.
