←ategoria e Parë 1996/97

The Kategoria e Pare 1997/98 (mutatis mutandis: First League ) was the 59th staging of the Albanian football championship and was the National Football Association Federata Shqiptare e Futbollit aligned. The season began on September 14, 1997 and ended on May 30, 1998.

Season course

As in the previous year, the league comprised 18 teams. In the 1996/97 season there had been neither relegated nor promoted due to the delayed end of the season, so that exactly the same teams as in the previous season participated in the game operations of the categoria e Parë. KS Olimpik Tirana had given back its original name Dinamo Tirana before the start of the season . The defending champion was SK Tirana .

The championship was played in a regular season with a round trip. Each team competed twice against each other team. The last three teams relegated to the then still second-rate category e dytë , in the following season the league was reduced to 16 teams. The champions qualified for the UEFA Champions League , the runners-up in the UEFA Cup .

A total of 781 goals were scored, which corresponds to an average of 2.6 goals per game. The top scorer with 26 goals was Dorian Bubeqi from KS Shkumbini Peqin .

After three titles in a row, SK Tirana had to be content with second place for the first time in 1997/98. Instead, Vllaznia Shkodra, the vice champion of the previous year, took the lead and won his eighth Albanian championship. For the lead of seven points, 42 hits in 34 games were enough. Partizani Tirana finished third right behind SK Tirana, narrowly missing out on making it into the UEFA Cup. Behind Shkumbini Peqin and Teuta Durrës , KF Elbasani took sixth place, 13th in the previous season, ahead of cup winner Apolonia Fier . This was followed by KF Laçi , KS Lushnja , Tomori Berat , Skënderbeu Korça , Dinamo Tirana , Bylis Ballsh and Besa Kavaja . Flamurtari Vlora , who was third a year earlier, found himself in the table cellar this time and was able to secure relegation with a lead of three points. On the other hand, Shqiponja Gjirokastra , the still beaten Sopoti Librazhd and Albpetrol Patos , who only scored 24 goals and conceded 93 goals, had to go into the second division .
