Ategoria e dytë is the third highest league of Albanian football , hosted by the Federata Shqiptare e Futbollit . The Kategoria e Dyte has two groups, a northern and a southern.
The north and south groups each have 13 teams; it used to be 10 teams each. The two group winners move up to the next higher league, theategoria e parë . The respective teams in places two to five also have the chance to advance in a previous play-off round against the teams in places 9 of the categoria e parë. The last of the seasons go to the fourth and thus lowest division in Albania, the categoria e tretë .
At the end of the season, the two season winners play a decider for the championship title.
