Gramsh ( Albanian  also  Gramshi ) is a small town in the south-east of Albania with 8440 inhabitants (2011 census), whereby the local authorities indicate around 15,000 inhabitants (2010). The place is located in the valley of the Devoll River, around 50 kilometers south of Elbasan .

main square

Gramsh is the capital of the Bashkia (parish) Gramsh . Until 2015, this only included the city. After the other municipalities of the repealed Gramsh district have been incorporated, the municipality covers an area of around 739 square kilometers with 24,231 inhabitants.

During the Ottoman period , Gramsh was a small market town. During communist rule, food and alcohol production facilities and, above all, ammunition factories were built on site, so that Gramsh developed into a small town.

The place can be reached from Elbasan on well-developed roads. Due to the construction of another hydroelectric power station, parts of the road from Gramsh to Korça are unpaved.
