history

Before Albania was founded in 1912 , there was no statistical service in the country. In 1924 a statistics office was opened in the Ministry of Road Maintenance and Agriculture. The activities of this office were limited in the agricultural inventories, which recorded the number of farmers and the type and amount of land use with plants and cattle. Statistics on industry, trade, export-import and prices were also kept superficially. On April 8, 1940, the statistical service in Albania was institutionalized for the first time by Decree No. 121.

On January 13, 1945 it was decided to subordinate the Statistics Department directly to the Council of Ministers .

Today the activities of the Statistics Institute are based on Law No. 9180 of February 5, 2004.
