The Icelandic football championship in 1944 was the 33rd season of the highest Icelandic football league .
The title went to Valur Reykjavík for the tenth time .
The season originally started with five clubs, all of which were based in Reykjavík . However, Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur withdrew from the league after just one game - an 8-0 loss to Fram Reykjavík . The game was canceled and the season continued with four teams.
