The Icelandic football championship in 1959 was the 48th season of the highest Icelandic football league . It began on May 26, 1959 and ended on September 1, 1959.
The teams played the championship for the first time in a back and forth series. The title went to the reigning record champions KR Reykjavík for the 16th time , who with a goal difference of 41: 6 did not lose any points during the entire season. Þróttur Reykjavík was relegated as the last placed team, and was replaced by ÍBA Akureyri the next season .
