Soccer
Since its founding on August 5, 1949, the club has often participated in the Urvalsdeild , Iceland's highest men's football league , but has never established itself there. Every promotion was soon followed by relegation to the second-highest division, very often after just one season (most recently e.g. 1998 , 2003 and 2005 ).
After being promoted in 2015, Þróttur played in the first division for two seasons before relegating again in 2017.
The venue is the Valbjarnarvöllur stadium , which has a capacity of 2,500 spectators.
