ÍB Akureyri (long: Íþróttabandalag Akureyri , abbreviated: ÍBA ) was an Icelandic football club .
history
It was created in 1928 through the merger of the two associations KA Akureyri and Þór Akureyri . The cooperation between these two clubs lasted until 1974. Then the merger was dissolved again, the two clubs again participated in the game operation independently.
The club played a total of 20 times in the top class: 1929, 1932, 1941, 1943, 1946, 1956, 1957, 1960–1963, 1965–1971, 1973, 1974. The best placings were in the years 1966–1968 with each 3rd place.
The greatest success came in 1969 with the cup victory and the subsequent participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970/71 .
