Simone Consonni (born September 12, 1994 in Ponte San Pietro ) is an Italian cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2011 Simone Consonni was on the podium four times at the national junior track championships. Two years later he became the Italian elite champion in the omnium . In 2014 he won several road races for young riders in Italy, including the Piccolo Giro d'Emilia and came third in the Italian championship in the Omnium. In 2015 he won La Côte Picarde, among others . In autumn of this year he won the silver medal in the U23 road race at the road world championships in Richmond, USA .
In 2016 Consonni was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished sixth in the team pursuit with Liam Bertazzo , Filippo Ganna and Francesco Lamon . In the same year he became the Italian U23 road racing champion. Also in 2016 he won with Ganna, Francesco Lamon and Michele Scartezzini at the European Championships of the Elite Silver European Championship in the team pursuit, as well as with Ganna, Lamon and Davide Plebani at the U23 European Championships . He was also the Italian master in the omnium . In 2017, Consonni achieved further international successes in team pursuit, such as the bronze medal at the world championships . In 2018, he finished third in the Omnium at the World Railroad Championships . In 2018 and 2019 he won the six-day race in Fiorenzuola d'Arda with Francesco Lamon .
At the Giro d'Italia 2019 , Consonni was able to place in the top ten in two stages. In 2020 he moved from UAE Team Emirates to Team Cofidis . At the UCI Track World Championships 2020 in Berlin, he won two medals: silver in the scratch and with Filippo Ganna , Francesco Lamon , Jonathan Milan and Michele Scartezzini in the team pursuit.
