Yoginder K. Alagh

Yoginder K. Alagh (born February 14, 1939 in Chakwal , Punjab , British India , now Pakistan ) is an Indian economist and independent politician who served as Minister of State for Planning, Program Implementation, Science, Technology and Energy between 1996 and 1998 and from 1996 to 2000 was a member of the Rajya Sabha .

Life

Alagh graduated from school with a degree in economics , including a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D. ). He then lectured at the Center for Applied Studies of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Mumbai , before becoming a consultant for perspective planning at the Planning Commission in 1974, where he worked until April 1983. In 1981 he was awarded the VKRV Rao Prize. He was later from September 1983 to February 1987 Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and subsequently a member of the planning commission between February 1987 and March 1990.

Alagh, who was Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) between December 1992 and June 1996 , was appointed Minister of State for Planning, Program Implementation, Science, Technology and Energy in June 1996 by Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda in his cabinet and held this government office until March 1998 also in the following government of Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral . At the same time, he became a non-party member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament , on November 26, 1996 , and represented the state of Gujarat until April 2, 2000 .

In 2006, Alagh became chairman of the Institute of Rural Management Anand ( IRMA ) , an Anand- based institute for rural management, and served in this office until 2012. He has since been Chancellor of the Central University of Gujarat (CUG).

His marriage to Raksha Alagh had a son and a daughter.
