Jérôme Coppel (born August 6, 1986 in Annemasse ) is a former French cyclist .

Athletic career

Coppel, who became French junior champion in the individual time trial in 2004 , was also successful in this discipline as a U23 rider. He was third in this discipline at the 2006 and 2007 World Championships and was French champion in both years. In 2007 he also won the French U23 road race title .

Then Coppel received a contract with the UCI ProTeam Française des Jeux for the seasons 2008 and 2009 . He then switched to Professional Continental Team Saur-Sojasun for three years , for which he won the stage races Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour , Tour du Gévaudan Languedoc-Roussillon - both in 2010 - and the Étoile de Bessèges in 2012. During this time he achieved his best placement in a Grand Tour , finishing tenth overall in the 2011 Tour de France .

In 2013 and 2014 Coppel drove for the Cofidis team , with the second place overall at the Étoile de Bessèges 2014. He ended his career at the 2015 World Championships with the Swiss WorldTeam IAM Cycling after the 2016 season , after becoming French time trial champion in 2015 won the bronze medal in the time trial and secured overall victory at the Étoile de Bessèges 2016 by winning the final time trial.
