Ruth Winder (born July 9, 1993 in Great Britain ) is an American racing cyclist who is active on track and road .
Athletic career
Ruth Winder comes from a cycling family. She was born in the United Kingdom, along with her five siblings, before the family moved to the United States in 2000.
In 2009, Winder won her first national title as the American youth road champion , and she finished second in the individual time trial . A year later, she became champion in the team pursuit of the elite . In 2015 she won the Pan American team pursuit together with Kelly Catlin , Sarah Hammer and Jennifer Valente . The following year, she was one of the five athletes who won the world championship title in the team pursuit at the UCI Track World Championships in 2016 ; it was the first time in cycling history that an American women's team succeeded.
In 2016 Winder was nominated for the start in the team pursuit at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she won the silver medal together with Kelly Catlin , Chloe Dygert and Jennifer Valente .
At the beginning of 2018, she joined the Dutch cycling team Team Sunweb . At the national championships, she was tenth in the road race and helped her teammate Coryn Rivera to victory. In addition, one day after her birthday, she won the 5th stage of the Giro d'Italia Femminile in a sprint from a three-man breakaway group and wore the pink jersey. Furthermore, she was able to win two stages in the Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l'Ardèche . In 2019 she moved to Team Trek-Segafredo Women and became US road champion.
