Leah Thomas (born May 30, 1989 in Cupertino ) is an American racing cyclist .
Athletic career
Leah Thomas began her athletic career as a gymnast . While studying to be a teacher at Northwestern University in Chicago , she began long distance running and ran her first marathon . Because of plantar fasciitis , she had to give up running and switched to cycling training, initially during her time as a teacher on the Navajo Nation Reservation in Arizona . In 2013, Thomas was convinced to contest her first race, which she won. In 2014 she moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area to live closer to her family and to exercise more intensely. The following year she gave up her full-time job as a teacher.
2016 won Thomas together with the team Sho-Air Twenty20 , the team time trial of the Tour of California , the following year, she decided a stage of the Tour of the Gila for himself and was third overall.
In 2018 Thomas won two prestigious races, the Tour de Feminin - O cenu Českého Švýcarska and the Chrono Champenois - Trophée Européen time trial competition ; at the road world championships she was fifth in the time trial. In 2019 she became the Pan American time trial champion and won the Tour of Scotland . In the time trial of the road world championships, she finished seventh.
